Overview
Triangle is a dance in which young man and woman entwine in a succession of lithe movements. The association is with the triangle shape, in a human context involving the introduction of a second woman into the mix. This triggers a dynamic of jealousy and rage, though it seems reconciled at the end. Nominated for an Oscar in 1995 it is a wonderfully envigorating fusion of dance, music and animation.

CinemaSerf:
Who would have thought that something so ostensibly solid as a triangle could be used to illustrate such fluidity, sensuousness and litheness? Well for ten minutes we watch two dancers, entirely human in shape and musculature performing an intricate array of manoeuvres that see their bodies intertwine effortlessly to a score of varying tempos. Midway through, a dark character appears to upset their equilibrium, but as you might expect given the title, that disturbance soon becomes integral to their athletic and flourishing actions. The drawings are simple yet perfectly crafted as they meld with each other, flail around each other and morph into a variety of disguises. There’s some sexy innovation here, and it is certainly worth a watch.
