Overview
Great Crimes and Trials is an early 1990s BBC documentary television series. The program consists of archival material combined with never before seen interviews to reconstruct a renowned crime, examining the felon's motives, details of the crime, the investigations and the trial. Each episode is narrated by actor Robert Powell. In the United Kingdom the program is shown on weekdays on the Crime & Investigation Network. The first series was released on DVD by Columbia Tristar in 2005, and the third series was released on DVD by Network DVD in 2011. The first and second series were released on video by Columbia Tristar in 1997.

Overview
On 19th June 1951 Julius and Ethel Rosenberg walked to the electric chair in Sing Sing prison to become the first married couple in the United States to be executed together. They had been found guilty at the height of the McCarthy anti-Communist witch hunts of spying for the Soviet Union during the Second World War and passing vital secrets of the Manhattan Project, America’s atomic bomb programme, to the Russians. To the end they protested their innocence and controversy continues as to whether they were condemned simply to calm the American public’s fear of growing Communist power.
