Inside the circus tent, a married couple performs as clowns and delights in making the audience laugh. At home, they struggle with poverty, sickness, and a troublesome teenage son, who is ashamed of their chosen trade. Despite all their battles, they learn that nothing else can bring more happiness than joy shared with other people.
