Biography
Aleksandr Belov graduated from VGIK in 2018 (Vladimir Alenikov’s workshop). In 2020, he defended his dissertation at MGIMO, focusing on the poetics of contemporary Iranian cinema. In 2022, he enrolled in the Moscow School of New Cinema (Oleg Dorman’s screenwriting workshop). He currently continues his studies at Stockholm University of the Arts, where he works within the field of artistic research, exploring the poetics of memory and trauma in cinema. His short films Lucky Ticket to Palau (2018), I Can’t Sleep (2019), and Crash (2021) were screened at VGIK Film Festival, Saint Anna Student Film Festival, and Unknown Film Festival. His debut feature film project was shortlisted for the Moscow International Film Festival debut pitching competition. His latest short film, That Summer I Got Accepted to University, has been presented internationally, including at the San Sebastián International Film Festival (Nest), Festival of Future Storytellers (Germany), and Beijing International Short Film Festival, where the film received a Jury Special Mention.
